Beyond Polar Fleece: How Incentives and Rewards can Improve Corporate Culture
It’s that time again – with December just around the corner, it’s the perfect time show your employees how much they are valued by management at this holiday season. Sadly, all too often, we see corporations focus all of their energy on gifts for their clients, without a thought to their employees.
Below are a few ideas on how companies can motivate, reward and thank their employees in ways that are meaningful and creative.
Remember that different employees have different needs.
Today’s workplace is more diverse than ever before, and the internal demographics of your company will inform which rewards are appreciated, and which ones will flop. Also, consider sourcing several different gifts thatwill appeal to these different groups as well as different departments. For example, the latest gadget or gizmo that might be appreciated by your junior staff might not go over so well with senior management.
Consider the gift of services.
Is your office located in a complex with a fitness centre or spa? Is there a coffee spot or restaurant that your staff frequent? If so, you may want to consider working with these providers to develop special packages, discounts, or perks that are exclusive to your employees.
Finally, no gift is more important than a simple thank you.
A personal handwritten note from the President, CEO, a board member or a member of senior management is a very powerful gesture, and much more meaningful than a form letter or mass email. In large corporations, notes can be divided up between heads of departments, so that each person receives a note from someone that they know, in the area that is the most relevant to their position. |
